Ingredients

Cake Layer
  • 1 box vanilla or pound cake mix baked and cooled
Strawberry Layer
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for macerating strawberries
Cream Layer
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream cold
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  1. Bake the cake according to package directions. Let it cool completely, then cut into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine sliced strawberries with sugar. Let sit for 15 minutes until juicy.
  3. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
  4. In a large trifle dish, layer cake cubes, strawberries with their juices, and whipped cream. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with whipped cream and strawberries on top.
  5. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

For added flavor, drizzle strawberry jam or liqueur over the cake layers before assembling. You can also use angel food cake for a lighter version.
