Ingredients

Fruit Filling
  • 4 cups apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries can substitute frozen
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour to thicken filling
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Crisp Topping
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold, cut into cubes
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish lightly with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine apples, cranberries, granulated sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Toss until evenly coated. Spread mixture evenly into the baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the fruit filling.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling.
  6. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For added crunch, stir in chopped pecans or walnuts to the crisp topping. You can also substitute pears for apples for a different twist.
